Design and Features

Dyson:

  • Dyson air purifiers boast a compact yet sophisticated design, seamlessly blending into any room decor.
  • The inclusion of a night mode offers convenience for nighttime use, although manual scheduling or app control is required.
  • Equipped with an integrated air quality sensor, Dyson purifiers detect a wide range of pollutants, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • The all-in-one design combines fan and purifier functions, maximizing space efficiency and convenience.

Dreo:

  • Dreo air purifiers feature a minimalist design ethos, prioritizing functionality and user experience.
  • Automatic light level detection adjusts the device’s brightness, enhancing user convenience without the need for manual intervention.
  • Separate motors for fan and purifier functions allow for independent control, enabling silent operation during air purification.
  • Dreo’s air quality sensor offers quick response times and efficient purification, ensuring accurate monitoring of indoor air quality.

I will say the design there can fade into the background. A lot of people will want to place an air purifier in their bedroom, and both of these are really well-suited to that. There’s just a difference in the way it’s handled.

Performance and Air Quality Sensing

Dyson:

  • With advanced sensor technology, Dyson purifiers excel in detecting various pollutants, including VOCs, and respond aggressively to clean the air.
  • Continuous purification mode, coupled with fan operation, may accelerate filter wear over time.
  • While effective in detecting pollutants, the sensor’s placement may result in overshooting air cleaning in certain scenarios.

Dreo:

  • Dreo air purifiers efficiently detect particulate matter with swift response times and effective purification capabilities.
  • Separating fan and purifier functions allows for silent operation during air purification, enhancing user comfort.
  • The sensor’s strategic placement near breathing height ensures accurate monitoring of indoor air quality.

Initially, when I compared the two air quality sensors, I thought this was a big win for Dyson. It’s obviously able to detect a lot of additional things, and that is important. I do love having the VOC sensor, and I do love that the Dyson responds to that aggressively. Like, it really cleans out the air.

  • Dreo provides additional integration with Amazon’s Voice Assistant, offering enhanced versatility in controlling the device.

Control and Automation

Dyson:

  • Basic controls are available through the Dyson app or remote, allowing users to adjust fan speed, enable night mode, and schedule auto-purification settings.
  • Integration with smart home systems is relatively limited, restricting seamless automation options.

Dreo:

  • Dreo air purifiers offer an extensive suite of controls accessible via the intuitive app interface.
  • Integration with Amazon’s Voice Assistant enables voice commands and automation, enhancing user convenience.
  • Compatible with various smart home platforms, Dreo facilitates seamless integration and automation for enhanced control.

I don’t think the extra value is there when it comes to the extra cost with Dyson. I think you’re paying for the look, and I think you’re paying for the brand, and I don’t think that’s making sense to many people anymore.
