Security cameras are an essential part of every home, crucial for maintaining security. However, with numerous brands available in the market, selecting a trustworthy company to protect your home might seem overwhelming. This is precisely why I’m here. In our discussion today, we will explore a particular model of security camera by a company named Blink, specifically the Video Doorbell with Sync Module 2.

Although Blink provides a solid security solution, is the camera performance up to the mark? Given the quality and features offered, the price of a Blink camera might appear somewhat steep.

The Blink Video Doorbell with sync module 2 will cost around $100, but is it reasonable? It certainly does come with features that all the brands have in their video doorbell. However, those features certainly aren’t performing well.

Blink Video Doorbell with sync module 2 comes with Two-way audio, day and night HD video, alerts, and more, but the quality of the footage isn’t good; it’s somewhat blurry.

Moreover, sometimes, you don’t get the alerts on your phone through the app.

However, it certainly is easy to install. You also get two options: either you can hardwire it where your older doorbell was or mount it and power it with batteries.

The sync module doesn’t work with an SD card, so you will have to either put in a USB that will allow it to store the data locally, or you can buy the subscription plan for cloud storage.

Blink cameras are good. However, the prices can be steep, considering the quality and the features

Blink is a good brand; it creates many security cameras but can be expensive. Today, we have the Blink Video Doorbell with the Sync Module 2, so let’s dive in and see how good it is.

    Unboxing

The Blink Video Doorbell with Sync Module 2 looks quite stunning in the box. It has a black finish and a pretty-looking lens on the front with a button below.

So, you get the camera, and in the back, you will see the wired pins and a compartment where the batteries will go.

Moreover, you also get the Sync Module 2, which has a black-and-white finish. It has a USB port on the side, a micro power port, and a Wi-Fi and Power LED on the front.

Besides that, you get 2 different mounting plates, the standard and the wedge. You get some power cables and a power adapter.

You will also get the wiring hardware that will be used to wire into your existing doorbell if you have the connection already.

Moreover, there is also some additional mounting hardware like screws and wire nuts, as well as a couple of batteries.

    Review

So, from the front, everything looks good. The button feels very simple, and I like that they gave a pin, which will be used to get the plate off and on the camera.

The Blink Video Doorbell with Sync Module 2 is a good security camera. However, unfortunately, you will encounter some issues with it. For instance, you may not get alerted every time it detects motion.

Additionally, I also couldn’t speak through my FireTV, that wouldn’t have been a big deal if the price was a bit low.

All and all, Blink Video Doorbell with Sync Module 2 is a fine doorbell camera, but it isn’t worth $100, you can get better doorbells at this price.

    Rating

This Blink doorbell will do what every doorbell is doing. There aren’t any special features.

So, considering every aspect, I’d give Blink Video Doorbell with Sync Module 2 a 6.5 out of 10.

Is Blink Video Doorbell Worth It?

As I said, there are hundreds of security camera brands, but not all are the best. However, they will cost you the same price.

Blink Video Doorbell isn’t the best doorbell camera but has great features.

Nevertheless, $100 seems quite steep, so I wouldn’t suggest you buy it. Especially not when you can find better doorbell cameras at a reasonable price in the market.

While you will get similar features in those other doorbell cameras that the Blink Video Doorbell comes with, the difference is that some features don’t work properly or come in good quality.

For instance, the quality of the footage isn’t so good. It’s, in fact, quite blurry, and it doesn’t cover the ground, which means you won’t be able to see the packages on the porch.

Moreover, users also seemed to have issues with the alerts. Blink Doorbells failed to send a motion alert a few times.

Now, the Blink Video doorbell isn’t all bad. It’s still better than most of the brands, I might have bought it if it had cost a little less.

However, if you are living in a cold environment, Blink Video Doorbell would be ideal as it’s known to operate at -4° F. In contrast, other doorbells may stop working when the temperature passes a certain degree.

If you don’t want to subscribe to a Blink plan to get the storage, insert a USB in the Sync Module to have data uploaded locally.

Well, it depends on how you are planning on using it. Blink security cameras are generally quite expensive. If we talk about the Blink Video Doorbell with Sync Module 2, it will cost you around $100.

So, the Blink Video Doorbell comes with Sync Module 2, a storage space. You can get a USB and insert it in the module, or you can pay a monthly fee o order to gain access to the cloud storage.

The subscription fee for the cloud storage will cost you $3 to $10 a month, depending on the plan.

Now, the smart option would be to get a USB because you won’t have to connect an internet connection and don’t have to pay a fee every month.

If you subscribe to a subscription plan to have cloud storage, you must connect to Wi-Fi because the footage won’t upload without an internet connection.

Do I need a Wi-Fi connection to set up my Blink Video Doorbell?

Blink Video Doorbell is a smart device so that it will require an internet connection. These devices are supposed to be controlled through the app on your phone. So, if your doorbell isn’t connected to the internet, you won’t get motion or package alerts.

Besides that, if your doorbell isn’t connected to Wi-Fi, you won’t be able to watch the live footage.

Moreover, if you have subscribed to a plan for cloud storage, you will have to connect your home network to the Blink Video doorbell.

However, if you use a USB, your camera will store the footage locally on the USB without an internet connection.

How Is Blink Video Doorbell Powered?

Security cameras have evolved drastically. In the olden days, you had to hardwire them, but now you can get cameras powered by solar, replaceable batteries, and even rechargeable batteries.

Sometimes, the cameras can also come with multiple power supply options. Blink Video Doorbell can be hardwired and has replaceable batteries that claim to last for 2 years.

2 years is rather long, and your batteries will only last that long if no one comes to your house, so your doorbell won’t be used as much.

You can run your doorbell on one or both power supplies, which I suggest. The batteries can die at any time, which can compromise the security of your home.

Thus, if one power supply dies, the other will still power your doorbell.
