Why Does My Television Constantly Turn Off?

Earlier, I mentioned the inactivity timer. This feature is installed in your TV, and it’s actually a Sleep Timer that allows your TV to automatically switch off after a set time has passed, just like how the Screen Timeout settings option works in your phone.

This ensures you save electricity when the TV is on without anyone watching it.

To switch off the sleep timer off, follow the steps below:

  • Open your Toshiba Fire TV.
  • Go to the Settings
  • Select Preferences
  • Tap on Clock.
  • Tap on Timer.
  • Switch the inactivity timer off.

If your Toshiba television is constantly turning off, it could also be due to a few different reasons:

Power supply issues

The TV may be turning off due to power supply issues, such as a faulty power cord or a damaged power outlet. Check to make sure that the power cord is securely connected to the TV and the power outlet, and try plugging the TV into a different outlet to see if the issue persists.

Sometimes, high demand for electricity causes fluctuation and can affect the performance of your TV. If you live in areas with often power shortages, invest in other power sources or an automatic voltage regulator.

Overheating

The TV may be overheating, which can cause it to shut down to prevent damage. Make sure that the vents on the back of the TV are not blocked by any objects, and try placing a fan near the TV to improve ventilation.

Refrain from covering your television after using it. There’s a tendency for the television will absorb the heat much longer if a cloth covers it.

Software issues

Another cause would be software issues. The TV’s software may be causing it to turn off. Try resetting the TV to its factory settings, which can often resolve software issues. I’ll briefly share how to reset your TV, so continue reading.

Hardware issues

There may be an issue with the TV’s hardware, such as a faulty component or a damaged circuit board. In this case, it may be necessary to have the TV repaired or replaced.

If none of these solutions resolve the issue, it’s best to contact Toshiba customer support for further assistance.

If you are experiencing this issue, here are some things you can do:

Check the TV’s temperature: If the TV is hot to the touch, this is a sign that it is overheating. Unplug the TV and let it cool down for a while before plugging it back in.

Inspect the power cord: Make sure that the power cord is securely plugged into the TV and the outlet. If the power cord is damaged, replace it with a new one.

Check for software updates: Go to Settings > Device > Software Updates to check for updates. If there is an update available, download and install it.

Restart the TV: Unplug the TV from the outlet, wait for 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. This will clear the TV’s cache and memory.

Reset the TV to factory defaults: This will erase all of your settings and data, but it may also fix the power-off issue. To reset the TV, go to Settings > Device > Reset & Admin > Reset to Factory Defaults.

If you have tried all of the above and the TV is still turning off, contact Toshiba customer support for further assistance.

How to reboot a Fire TV?

You can restart the Fire TV via the remote. Press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons for five seconds.

If you suspect the issue is in your Fire TV and not the remote. There’s also a way to reboot your Fire TV by using an HDMI-CEC-enabled, universal remote or connecting it to a wireless keyboard.

Do fire TVS turn off automatically?

Of course, this is when you leave it idle for at least 20 minutes. So don’t turn it on and leave it for half an hour because when you return to your TV, you’ll find it’s already blacked off. However, it would still be on Standby mode unless you remove it from its power source.

Even though it is in sleep mode, it still runs and uses energy in the background. While most of its function is limited or disabled, it’s not off. Press any button on the FireStick remote to wake your Toshiba Fire TV.

What to do if Toshiba Fire TV keeps restarting?

While you can experience screen blacking out due to its Sleep Timer, you might also experience an often restating issue in your Toshiba Fire TV. Like the fix mentioned earlier, the solution to this problem is similar to the tips I shared earlier.

  • Check the Power Source
  • Remove Other HDMI-Connected Devices from the TV
  • Update Fire TV Software.
  • Factory Reset Fire Stick

FAQs

Where can I find the model and the serial number of my television?

Answer: The model and serial numbers are on the television’s rear. The model number is also on the User’s Manual and Quick Start Guide’s front cover.

Am I able to use a universal remote with my television?

Answer: Yes. If you prefer to use your cable set-top box or satellite receiver as a universal remote, refer to the manual supplied by your cable or satellite provider. It will contain programming instructions for their remote to work with your television.

Will my television receive updates automatically if I connect it to the Internet?

Yes, most smart TVs will receive updates automatically if they are connected to the internet. However, some older models may require you to check for and install updates manually.

To check if your TV is set to receive updates automatically, go to the TV’s settings menu and look for a section on software updates. There should be a setting that allows you to enable or disable automatic updates.

If you enable automatic updates, your TV will automatically check for and install updates when they are available. This is the best way to ensure that your TV’s software is always up to date.

Can I remove apps from my television?

Answer: Only downloaded apps can be deleted from the TV (uninstalled). Such as Netflix, factory-installed apps cannot be removed. You can remove the TV from accounts with factory-installed apps, however. If so, you should inform the app service provider that billing should cease.

What is upscaling exactly?

Answer: When a lower picture resolution of a movie, game, or other content is converted to a higher resolution, the image becomes more precise and sharper. Upscaling is supported by certain 4K televisions and devices (such as Blu-ray players).

If you want to upgrade, your media room and all your DVDs are 1080p; for instance, use a Blu-ray player that supports upscaling; it will convert the resolution to as close to 2160p (4K) as possible. All input signals are automatically upscaled to the highest resolution that the TV can support by Toshiba televisions.

What is the refresh rate of a TV?

Answer: The refresh rate is measured in hertz and represents the number of times the image is refreshed per second. For instance, a television with a refresh rate of 60Hz will refresh the image 60 times per second. Refresh rates vary between televisions and cannot be altered. The manufacturer determines the specifications.

Conclusion

Toshiba televisions can be particular when it comes to power. Check the Sleep or inactivity timer if your Toshiba television doesn’t turn on. Frequently, televisions develop bugs, and companies will release minor updates to fix them, so it’s important that you keep your TV up to date.

If none of these solutions work, you should contact support for Toshiba. Otherwise, you can also purchase a new television.
