I’ve been thinking about how to make the kids’ bedroom part of the smart home. I think there would be some benefits of making the lights turn off during bedtime, waking up to the blinds opening in the morning, and having their favorite music streaming on their smart speaker or smart display. I love IKEA stuff, so I’ve been hoping and dreaming about the opportunity to outfit my kids’ room with IKEA furniture and IKEA Smart Home devices. The IKEA Smart Home comes works has its own hub system that primarily works on the Zigbee protocol. So if you already have a Zigbee hub like the Hubitat, AduroSmart, or Samsung SmartThings, you may be able to integrate IKEA’s Smart Home devices. I’m going to show you my shopping list for the kid’s room.

Smart Home Ideas for Kids Bedroom: IKEA MYRVARV LED Lights
MYRVARV – Smart LED Lights for under the bed and in the closet.
I would like to put some smart LED lights underneath the kids’ bed to provide some ambient lighting when the main room light is not on. I could also light up the kids’ desks too to help with reading and doing their homework.
The IKEA MYRVARV Led String lights are fairly new to IKEA’s Smart Home repertoire. The MYRVARV comes in 6′ 7″ or 2-meter strips. This is a fairly attractive price for a smart LED strip at 2 meters. However, the lights only come in white, and you need to have the IKEA Smart Controller, and the IKEA TRÅDFRI Driver set to plug your MYRVARV LED Light Strips. The IKEA TRADFRI Driver set and the IKEA ANSULTA power cord is required for most of IKEA’s smart, wired lighting. You will also require the Tradfri Gateway unless you already have the Zigbee Hubs like Hubitat, Adurosmart, or SmartThings.
Smart Home Ideas for Kids Bedroom: IKEA FYRTUR Blackout Blinds
Smart Home Idea with IKEA FYRTUR Blackout Blinds to maintain privacy and keep the light from disturbing my little ones.
I have some made-up blackout blinds for the kids. I assemble them and take them down each night and day before and after bedtime. It would be great to replace this effort with a seamless Smart Blackout Blind roller like the IKEA FYRTUR. The IKEA FYRTUR Blackout blinds are completely wireless. You can control them by integrating with the IKEA Gateway or IKEA Remote Button. They operate on a rechargeable battery. However, there is some effort to make sure they fit your window. I might have to take a saw to cut them down to the right size for my window. The FYRTUR Blinds are 48″ by 76 ¾” (122.0×195 cm). There are some videos out there on YouTube that show you how to do that.

Smart Home Ideas for Kids Bedroom: IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf Speakers
I love my IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf speakers. You can read the review here. If the kids want to listen to their favorite music, they could use the IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf speakers and create some serious dance parties with their friends. The IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf speakers use the SONOS app to manage so that you can play from YouTube Music, Spotify, or Deezer for your favorite family-friendly music.
You can read about how to connect your Symfonisk Speakers here: https://automatelife.net/how-to-connect-sonos-speakers-to-a-samsung-tv-faq/.
I’m actually excited to hear more about the next version of the IKEA SYMFONISK Speakers coming out this year.
Smart Home Ideas for Kids Bedrooms: IKEA NÄVLINGE LED Reading Light with IKEA TRÅDFRI Wireless control outlet (Smart Plug)
Smart Home Idea for the Kids’ Bedroom: Smart Reading Lights with IKEA NÄVLINGE and TRÅDFRI Smart Plug
My kids love to read. I love the reading. If I could get them some clip-on reading lights like the NÄVLINGE LED lights and add some IKEA TRÅDFRI smart plugs, I could also say “lights out” to Alexa or Google Assistant to ensure that my kids are finishing up their reading time before bed and actually go to bed. These lights are not smart, but pairing with them with a Smart Plug makes it convenient and easy. The cost is low and I don’t have to find space to add a lamp with the number of collectibles my kids have on their nightstands.
Smart Home Ideas for the Kids Bedroom with IKEA Smart Home Devices
I am really excited to see how I can make my Kids’ Bedroom a safe addition to the smart home. These Smart Home Ideas for the kids’ bedroom becomes easier to imagine with the ingenuity of IKEA Smart Home Devices and IKEA Furniture designs. The IKEA smart home provides smart FYRTUR blackout blinds, MYRVARV Smart LED light strips or setting up reading lights like the NÄVLINGE. I’m sure I can use my existing Zigbee Hub, the Hubitat, or the SmartThings Hub to integrate the devices in the Kid’s Bedroom. However, You’ll be just fine with the IKEA Gateway Hub to manage your IKEA smart home. You might even think of having a hub just for your kids’ rooms, separately from the rest of the house. That could be a good idea! In any case, I hope that you enjoy outfitting your home with IKEA Smart Home devices.
