Delete Forgotten Applications

Unused apps not only take up storage space, but they can also access your personal information without your knowledge.

To uninstall, either press and hold the app icon and select ‘Uninstall’ or sort the Google Play Store’s ‘Manage Apps & Devices’ section by least used. Removing programs you haven’t used in months results in a cleaner system and speedier performance.

Clear Out Old Files

Old files such as downloads, GIFs, and unused media accumulate, using storage space. Use the built-in Files app or a third-party file manager to find and eliminate unwanted files.

Check the Downloads folder first, then search for large files. Transfer critical files to cloud storage, such as Google Drive, to clear up space while maintaining accessibility.

Restart Your Phone Regularly

Restarting removes temporary files, resets background processes, and refreshes system memory. A fast restart once a week can help prevent crashes, improve performance, and extend battery life. To restart, press and hold the power button and select ‘Restart.’

You may schedule automatic reboots under Settings > Device Care > Auto Restart for regular maintenance on your Samsung smartphone.

Update Your Software

Outdated software can lead to slow performance and security issues. Regular upgrades improve your phone’s performance. Go to Settings > System > Software Update to check for updates.

Updates frequently feature bug fixes and performance improvements to help your device run faster. Connect your phone to Wi-Fi to quickly download updates without using mobile data.

Turn Off Unnecessary Animations

Animations smooth out transitions but might slow down performance, particularly on older devices. Enable Developer Options by tapping “Build Number” seven times in Settings > About Phone, then adjust or disable animation scales

Lowering them to 0.5x or eliminating them can result in considerably faster app startup and shutdown.

Free Up Storage Space

A full-storage drive may cause your phone to slow down. Go to Settings > Storage and select the “Free Up Space” option to erase cached data, large files, and unused apps.

Many phones also indicate duplicate files or backups to help you successfully clean up your storage. Keeping at least 15-20% of your storage free helps you retain peak performance.

Use Lite Apps

Lite apps, such as Facebook Lite or Messenger Lite, require less storage RAM and load faster than their full versions. These simplified programs preserve important functions while eliminating unnecessary frills and animations.

They are best suited for older or less capable devices and can be downloaded directly from the Google Play Store.

Enable Dark Mode

Dark Mode relieves eye strain and saves battery life on OLED displays by requiring fewer resources to generate dark pixels.

Turn it on by going to Settings > Display > Dark Mode or Dark Theme. You can set it to activate at nighttime for a better user experience and device efficiency.

Clear App Caches

Cached data can slow down apps and consume storage space over time. To clear it, navigate to Settings > Apps, select an app, and then touch Storage > Clear Cache

This is ideal for regularly used apps such as browsers, social networking, and messaging platforms. Clearing the cache does not remove app data, making it a safe option to increase speed.

Remove Excessive Widgets

Widgets on your home screen can drain memory and processing power, particularly those that update often, such as weather or news widgets.

Long-press any widget and drag it to the “Remove” option. Keeping your home screen minimal with only the required widgets will boost performance and battery life.

Check for Malware

Malware slows down devices and might jeopardize security. To scan for hazardous apps, use Google Play Protect (available in the Play Store under “Play Protect”).

Third-party anti-malware applications like Malwarebytes can help detect and remove threats. Regular scans help your phone work smoothly and securely.

Optimize Battery Usage

Enable Adaptive Battery under Settings > Battery to improve battery life and performance. Turn off auto brightness and manually adjust the slider to less than 50%.

Disable background activity for apps you rarely use in Settings > Apps > Battery Optimisation.

Clear Browser Data

Browsers cache data, cookies, and history, which can slow down web browsing. To erase superfluous data in Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data and select “All Time.”

Clearing browser data regularly improves surfing performance and frees up storage space.

Simplify Your Homescreen

To prevent cluttered home screens, organize apps into folders and disable auto-addition of new apps under Settings > Home Screen

Reducing the amount of active panels and widgets improves responsiveness while reducing lag caused by superfluous animations.

Stop Auto App Updates

Apps that automatically update in the background can cause your device to slow down. In the Play Store, navigate to Settings > Network Preferences > Auto-update Apps and choose “Don’t Auto-update Apps.”

Manually updating programs allows you to control resource utilization and system performance. If you want to discover more ways to optimize your Android experience, check out 15 Android Shortcuts to Use Today (Bonus Tips) for additional time-saving tricks.

Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If your phone still slows after optimization, consider doing a factory reset. This deletes all data and returns the phone to its original condition.

Back up your important data first, then navigate to Settings > System > Reset Options > Factory Reset. This step clears all clutter and gives your phone a fresh start, dramatically increasing performance.
