Samsung is holding its Galaxy Unpacked 2020 Event on February 11, 2020. I think this what the world has been waiting for. At CES 2020, Samsung displayed their amazing technologies from the whole connected environment, from home to on the road.

You can check out the teaser video here: https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/events/unpacked/

Samsung has been wooing people about their line of Galaxy devices; and Galaxy Smart Wearables. Now they will be ‘Unpacking’ their vision on the automated world. We got a glimpse at CES 2020. Now it’s the Galaxy UNPACKED event.

Unpacking Samsung Galaxy

Alright, we get to dream again about what we could see at Galaxy Unpacked. The teaser video didn’t give you many clues. I’m thinking that the shrouded device could be the new SmartThings Hub.

Samsung has been finding ways to get everything under the sun connected. If they release the Galaxy Home Mini, they will probably show all the things the hub will connect to:

Bixby: Of course, we cannot start without talking about Bixby. Samsung has to enter the world of automation with a solid voice assistant. You gotta wonder how Bixby is going to interact with search engines from Amazon and Google. How is Bixby going to meet your needs in the home?

Communication: There is a word on the street, that the new Galaxy Home Mini will be able to receive messages without connecting to your Smartphone. Yeah! We can celebrate that you don’t need a smartphone to be automated! That might be a work in progress, but this is something to celebrate. I wonder if it will work like Apple’s iMessage or Blackberry’s BBM in some way.

The Galaxy Hub: Now, of course, there is SmartThings, but when you integrate everything that could be connected on any of Samsung’s ecosystem, you have to start thinking: Your vehicle, washing machine, dryer, air conditioning, lights, switches, home security, inventory, power management, safety. You name it, Samsung the mothership has a hand in it. If the Galaxy Hub is built-in with some of the same technology it has been talking about at CES 2020, I think we’re in store for something impressive from Samsung. However, they might not tell you that it could do more until later. So every function that SmartThings can do, but more integration and monitoring of appliances. Think about all the things that work with SmartThings already. Think about every communication protocol: Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave, Bluetooth (5.0). Samsung has a way to connect to all of it.

The Galaxy Display: What about displays? Amazon has the Echo Show. Google has the Nest Hub. The Galaxy Display – Has a nice ring to it. I think we could benefit from having a Samsung Display Hub. What if you could take the new Galaxy S20 phone and just attach it to a hub, like a Nintendo Switch. Ok, I’m dreaming again.

Mobility: I don’t think this is outside the reach of Samsung. A mobile type of Hub. A Hub that you can take with you. Your own. It would need encryption, and it would need to confirm your identity.

Galaxy UNPACKED 02-11-20

Samsung has had the opportunity to witness Amazon, Google and Microsoft show off their technology and vision for a connected world in the last year. Now it’s Samsung’s turn to set the bar. I’m excited about it. I get the chance to think about where these tech companies are taking us. Its fun perchance to dream. Are you excited?

We’ll catch up on 02-11-20.
