Philips Hue App and Button Features

You’ll need the Philips Hue App to access the features of the Philips Hue smart button.

In the Philips Hue App, you can access the Smart Button features by pressing the 3-dot button at the screen’s top right hand. You will be given an option for ‘room and zones,’ ‘light setup,’ and ‘accessory setup.’ The Smart Button features are found in the ‘accessory setup.’

The Philips Hue App gives you a ton of options for the Philips Hue Smart Button. You can rename your Smart Button to whatever naming convention you need. You can also designate the room for which the lights are in.

You can also change the lights’ behavior into two different settings: Scene Cycles or Time-Based light Features.

Philip Hue Smart Button: Scene Cycles

Both Scene Cycles or Time-Based light behaviors give you up to 5 different actions to set your lighting scenes. In my situation, my Philips Hue Color lights were in the office. The 5 default selections are shown in the Philips Hue App. Each time you press the Smart Button, you can have the lights change to 5 different lighting options. You can choose your lighting scenes between those provided by Philips Hue or customize your own scenes in the Philips Hue App. You can also set up a function (turn-off, dimming, or do nothing) when pressing and holding the Philips Hue Smart Button.

Philips Hue Smart Button: Time-Based light

You can set the lighting to change based on 5 different time windows in the time-based light feature. You can choose to have the button activate different lighting scenes within those time windows. The default lighting windows are:

  • 07:00 to 10:00,
  • 10:00 to 17:00,
  • 17:00 to 20:00,
  • 20:00 to 23:00, and
  • 23:00 to 7:00

The lights will automatically change based on these settings. If you press the button in any one of those time windows, the light will change to that specific light setting or scene. Otherwise, your lights will change at those times by default. You can also add a ‘press and hold’ function to dim the lights, turn off all your lights, or do nothing.

Philips Hue really thought about what you might need in most living conditions. So they gave you all the options for what you would need for a Smart Button. The combinations for the Smart Button functionality provide you with so many automatic lighting options throughout your day.
