Call your Friends and Family Automatically with a Touch of a Button using Action Blocks; so there is speed dial and there is the super-easy-and-efficient-dial. Action Blocks make that phone call quick. We are continuing our series on Action Blocks by Google. It is a super fast and easy way to pre-program your Google Assistant actions into one easy touch of a button or widget on your Android device (mobile phone or tablet).

Save Precious Time By Making a Phone Call using Action Blocks

Today we’re going to walk you through making automatic phone calls with a touch of a button using Google’s Action Blocks. This is a really easy and convenient way for people from all walks of life to make a phone call when it really counts. Imagine making it really easy for your kids to call you, or your grandma or grandpa to give you a call. Instead of trying to remember the number, you can use Google Action Blocks to save time for them, especially when there is an emergency. The button would be right there on the home screen; no need to fish through the contact information or try to find contacts on different phones.

Make a Phone Call using Action Blocks

Let’s get started with the first step. Go to the Google Play Store to get the Google Action Blocks App for your mobile phone (or tablet with SIM card).

  • Open up Action Blocks on your Android Device.
  • You will notice a blue rectangle button that says: “+ Create Action Block”. Select ‘+ Create Action Block.’ You will then see a list of options for you to create your specific action block.
  • Select “Make a Phone Call”
    • NOTE: You should know that you are essentially asking Google Assistant a query to make a phone call to someone in your contact list or a phone number. So, if you have someone already in your contact list, Google Assistant will most likely call the person closest to the name you requested, however, if you put in a phone number, it will dial the phone number you list.
  • In the Action Blocks Command (What should this Action Blocks do?), enter in Call {Insert Name} or Call {Phone Number}.
    • You can also say Call {Name} at [Home]
    • or, Call {Name} on [Mobile]
    • or, even Call {Name} on [Skype]
  • Once you’ve done this, you will be asked to test out the Action Block Command. I recommend this since you might have names in your contact list that are similar, and sometimes, Google Assistant can make mistakes… really.
  • Once tested, you will be prompted for the next step, which is adding a picture or symbol for the action. I just used the default icons/pictures. You can personalize this for younger kids, or people needing assistance to comprehend what the action is.
  • Now you add the title of the Action Block, and the App will automatically insert into a screen, or you can hold and drag the Action Block to the screen of your choice.

One Tap Phone Call Set Up with Action Blocks

Having a One Tap Phone Call Accessiblity feature on your Android device is a great time saver. No more searching contacts. You can have a whole page filled with Action Block Widgets for your children, your parents, for those that need assistance, or even your colleagues. Google has just made making a phone call that much easier.
