The Google Nest Mini is the new and improved version of the Google Home Mini Smart Home Speaker. The Nest Mini was designed to improve sound and speed up the automation in the Smart Home. The Nest Mini is essentially an enhanced Google Home Mini. It is a simple way to enter the Smart Home space. I was able to get my Nest Mini through my YouTube Music subscription giveaway. It has been perched on my office shelf, ready to provide me the services that Google Assistant provides – and it sounds great! Let’s take a look at the Nest Mini and determine whether it’s a fit for you. You can also read our review on the Google Home Mini.

If you’re in the market for a Smart Home Speaker like the Nest Mini, you can find it using our Affiliate Links (we may make money from eligible sales):

The Nest Mini is ready and able to execute your Smart Home commands. Just say “Ok, Google” or “Hey Google” and begin asking Google Assistant to bring you news, music, information (Google Search) all by using your voice.

Here are a few things you can try with the Nest Mini:

  • Stream Music through YouTube Music, Google Play Music, Spotify or any other main Music service.
  • Create Calendar and Events, just by asking Google to “create an event for Saturday….” Google Assistant will take care of the rest.
  • Read Audiobooks.
  • Learn your voice to respond to different people in your household.
  • Hands-Free Calling: The Nest Mini will use Google Duo to call anyone in the world.
  • Information on Sports, Recipes, Translation, Finance, News, Calculations.

Google Nest Mini

The Nest Mini is a Smart Home Speaker. The Nest Mini Smart Speaker has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. It provides 360 degrees sound and can be operated by using the capacitive touch controls on the Nest Mini device. It is armed with the Quad-Core 64-bit processor – which means it can execute with speed. The Google Nest Mini comes in a number of colors: Chalk, Charcoal, Coral, and Sky Blue.

The Nest Mini has three (3) Far-field microphones to hear you better. The Google Home Mini had two (2). The far-field microphones can also be used to sense sound when you are away as part of the Nest Guard Security System.

Ultrasonic Sensing – This is Google’s way of sensing when you come close to the Nest Mini. Placing your finger close the device will alert the Nest Mini to light up to show you where you need to place your finger to increase, decrease or the center where you can play or pause music or streaming.

The Nest Mini has a #8 screw mount on the back, which is an upgrade from the Google Home Mini (1st Gen). Now you can mount it on anything (wall, side of the desk, etc.)

The Nest Mini also has local computing. This means that the time it takes for the Google Assistant to execute commands has been shortened. Imagine asking a number of questions or ‘continuing’ conversations with Google Assistant. The Nest Mini allows for the processing to occur on the device and avoid going to the cloud so you can get responses much quicker than most Smart Speakers on the market.

The Nest Mini has Chromecast Built-In, so you can cast your radio or music subscription (video feed in the future) to the Nest Mini speaker as well – unlike the Google Home Mini which just does Audio. This is exciting to see how Google will improve features in the future. The device also works as a Hub for Google Home Integration to a ton of partners.

You need the Google Home app in order to make use of all the Smart Home Automation features. You can download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app. You will need a Google account in order for Google Assistant to provide you with all the information and services that Google provides. You will also need a WiFi connection to ensure that Google Assistant can connect you to the plethora of information.

What I like about the Google Nest Mini

  • The Nest Mini is quick and powerful – it responds to my requests with some speed. I have compared this with my Google Home Mini. The speed difference is noticeable. It gives me some confidence that I will get a response from Google Assistant right away.
  • Sound: I thought the sound from the 1st Generation Mini was good. When you listen to music with the Nest Mini you’ll notice that most of the audio channels have more power to them – giving a full sound.

What I don’t like about the Google Nest Mini

  • Capacitive Touch – I think it’s intuitive to have Capacitive touch for the Nest Mini. I wish you could do more with capacitive touching
  • That there is nothing else not to like about the Nest Mini. I think you’re going to see that I recommend this device already!

Google Nest Mini in Your Home

I’m using the Nest Mini in my office and it’s providing awesome sound to fill the room. The Nest Mini is a really good Smart Speaker. It has a number of things that have improved its performance compared to its predecessor. If you’re new to the Smart Home, you’re going to find the Nest Mini will meet your needs. It will hear you over the music and respond right away. The Nest Mini was built with increased computing power, speakers, and microphones. Google is getting ready to blow your socks off with more Smart Home features, so they got the Nest Mini ready to provide some of those functions. The value is already built-in! You’ll find the Nest Mini on the market for approx. $50 USD. I recommend that you add a Nest Mini to your Smart Home.

Thank you for reading. Enjoy your Google Nest Mini.
