I’ve been trying to follow what’s going on with the Google Home system. There is news from 9to5Google that the New Google Home speaker (codename Prince) will be rebranded to a new Nest Home Speaker or something to that effect.
The Google Home has been in the market since 2016. The original design sparked a ton of interest as it showed off a pedestal type smart speaker with all the smarts of Google Assistant. Well, now Google intends to market its Smart Home ecosystem under the Nest brand. So maybe it will be called the Nest Home? It makes sense, but we’ll see.
9to5Google says that the new Nest Home Smart Speaker will probably have high-powered drivers that will improve the sound quality from the original Google Home Speaker.

Will the New Nest Home Hub have Connected Home over IP or Thread?
It also makes sense that this new Nest Home is a proper Smart Home Hub. This is just my thinking; I’m excited to see if the new Nest Home will have the Thread protocol or the new Connected Home over IP protocol. I’m curious:
- Will it use WiFi 6E?
- Does that mean a new Nest WiFi with WiFi 6 is coming too!?
- Or will the new Google Nest Home product incorporate WiFi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Thread?
- oh, and will the new Nest Home BLE?…
- Will the Nest Home replace Nest WiFi?
Exciting times. It looks like Google will be announcing the new Nest-branded-codename-Prince-Smart Speaker in the next few months!
