Peloton and Fitbit Integration: What You Need to Know

Peloton and Fitbit Integration: What You Need to Know

Short Answer: Yes, Peloton works with Fitbit by allowing you to connect your Peloton account with Fitbit. This means that every time you finish a workout, Peloton will automatically sync up your metrics with your Fitbit account, allowing you to track your workout information.

That said, this doesn’t mean you can connect your Fitbit to your Peloton. You can only sync up their accounts.

The original Peloton bike is probably the most well-known product from Peloton featuring a large LCD screen on both the front and rear speakers.

Also, you’ll love working out in any of the thousands of classes offered by Peloton’s All-Access membership program.

You’d be happy to know that Peloton is compatible with Fitbit which can be used as a heart rate monitor as well. However, the heart monitor isn’t Fitbit’s most valuable feature but the analytics it provides.

I understand these all seem like a piece of vague information. I’m pretty sure you have lots of questions in mind. In that case, I am here to explain how Peloton can be integrated with Fitbit.

Let’s keep the ball rolling!

What is Peloton?

We can think of the Peloton bike as the iPhone of spin bikes. The bike comes with a sleek touchscreen so you can view live or pre-recorded exercise classes while working out

It weighs 61 kgs featuring a steel frame and super quiet wheels. It comes with a 21.5-inch 1080p HD display which is probably its most distinctive feature.

You can use the Peloton bike indoors or as a spin bike. It works like most spin bikes out there – it even has a resistance knob which you’ll find in most bikes.

As for the bonus, you’ll get Peloton-branded accessories like cycling shoes and bike mats when you purchase certain Peloton packages.

What is Fitbit?

Fitbits are activity trackers worn like wristwatches. When connected to a phone, it tracks activities like walking, running, swimming, biking, or working out at the gym.

You can either choose from trackers and watches. Fitbit trackers focus on tracking your activities while watches offer features similar to smartphones such as text, call, and calendar notifications.

Whichever type of Fitbit you choose, it’ll include common features like all-day heart rate tracking, step counting, calorie burn, and pre-programmed exercise modes.

How to Use Fitbit with Peloton?

Fitbit with Peloton can be used in different ways:

  • used as a heart rate monitor
  • daily readiness score
  • detailed health metrics
  • stress management
  • sleep analytics
  • calories burned

Used as a Heart Rate Monitor

Fitbit is commonly used with Peloton bikes as a heart rate monitor. With the Peloton app, you can sync your device via Bluetooth.

The Fitbit app monitors your stats. It’ll let you see how your body responds to the Peloton training. Therefore, it’s going to help improve your fitness level and modify your workout based on the feedback that you get from the app.

Daily Readiness Score

Fitbit and the Peloton can help you assess your daily training readiness. This new feature optimizes your activity level by giving you a daily readiness score.

I find a daily readiness score helpful with workouts since it allows me to make smart decisions about whether or not to train, what intensity to use, and how long I should rest between sessions.

Detailed Health Metrics

As part of Fitbit’s new health metrics feature, you can track your oxygen saturation, breathing rate, and skin temperature.

The majority of these features aren’t crucial for you to achieve your goals. However, in the long run, they can provide additional motivation and guidance.

Stress Management

Fitbit app now tracks and monitors your stress levels. There are also several stress management options available, such as mindfulness sessions.

Only Fitbit premium subscribers can access mindfulness sessions (and other video and audio content).

With Fitbit stress management, you can get feedback about your current stress level during Peloton classes. Taking meditation or relaxation classes is also recommended if your numbers are above baseline.

Yoga and meditation sessions are available on the Peloton app. It is possible to reduce the Fitbit stress score with these meditation classes.

That’s not all.

Based on the stress management score, you can determine if your body responds well to meditation and which meditation techniques are most effective for you.

Sleep Analytics

With Fitbit Premium, you can also track your sleep score and get advanced sleep analytics.

The Fitbit sleep tracker has increased my mindfulness around sleep. I also learned that a bad night’s sleep affects my performance, food choices, energy, and mood throughout the day.

With the sleep tracker, you become more aware of how sleep impacts your fitness goals and how it affects your workouts.

Aside from realistic sleep recommendations, it also explains sleep duration, restless sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep in detail.

Calories Burned

With the Fitbit and the Peloton bike, you can also track your calories burned during workouts.

There is a power sensor on the peloton bike that measures the METs and converts them to calories burned.

This applies only to the classes you take on the bike. It’s hard to know how many calories you burn when doing strength training, walking, yoga, pilates, or boot camp without a heart rate monitor.

Is Apple Watch better or Fitbit?

Both are great wearable brands. However, the better option would rely on what you are considering more or your priorities. For example, if you need a budget-friendly smartwatch, having monitoring as your primary purpose, you should opt for Fitbit.

On the other hand, you should go with Apple Watch if you want to enjoy a lot more features in exchange for affordability. I would go with Apple Watch since there is a study that its result is just a little more accurate than Fitbits’.

Fitbit not Syncing with Peloton

It would be best if you did some troubleshooting. Open your Fitbit App and ensure you’ve allowed all the necessary permission. Another trick would be to unpair your Peloton, re-pair and click sync.

If it still doesn’t work, uninstall your Fitbit App and restart your phone. After the restart, install the Fitbit App and connect or re-pair your Peloton.

Summary

As you can see, Peloton greatly works on Fitbit!

Personally, the most beneficial feature is that with the Fitbit app, you can monitor your heart rate while on the Peloton bike.

There is more to that… Fitbit can also track your burned calories while on the peloton bike. However, it can’t detect calories burned when you’re not on the bike.

I hope you’re now convinced of how cool Fitbit is!
