My Journey to Choosing a Smart Projector Over a Smart TV

Last year, I renovated my living room, and while shopping for other smart devices, I saw a big smart TV in a store. I was mesmerized by its appearance, as they are becoming very popular, and I also wanted to get one.

However, as soon as I got home, I started researching and discovered that a smart projector would be better than a smart TV.

I am very happy with my decision after having a smart projector in my living room for the past year. Here is how I know it was my best decision.

Bigger Screen Without the Bulk

No matter how advanced a smart TV is, it takes up a lot of space. They need to be wall-mounted or fixed on a stand, which can be cumbersome.

On the other hand, my projector doesn’t require any physical space for screening. It can be discreetly placed on a shelf or a tripod stand, occupying very little room.

Additionally, while smart TVs with big screens max out at around 85 inches, my projector easily delivers a 120-inch display. This means I get a bigger screen without compromising on space.

Portable and Versatile Setup

Projectors are incredibly versatile and easy to move, making them perfect for any room. I usually keep mine in the living room, but when I have friends over for a movie night, I set it up in the backyard for an outdoor screening.

Sometimes, I place it in my bedroom to enjoy my favorite shows before sleeping. Its portability and versatility make me proud of my investment.

No Annoying Screen Glare

Watching something on TV can sometimes get annoying when you have glare from windows, lights, or mirrors, making it difficult to see the screen.

Many smart projectors offer excellent image quality but perform best in dim or dark rooms. Some high-end models with laser projection and high lumens output can handle well-lit rooms better.

So, watching a football match or any movie on a projector is a great choice because you don’t get bothered by any reflections and won’t miss any goals.

Smart Features, Just Like a TV

If you think that projectors don’t have the features of a smart TV, then you are mistaken. My projector has everything a smart TV offers.

It suggests shows, connects with Wi-Fi and can be controlled with voice commands and a smartphone. My smart projector plays all the popular streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and YouTube, just like a smart TV.

Perfect for Small Spaces

I live in an apartment and don’t have a large living room, so placing a big smart TV in that area would be very difficult for me. It would make the room look cluttered and messy.

On the other hand, my smart projector doesn’t take up any space and can project a much larger screen onto any blank wall. This means no space is consumed, making it perfect for any small space home.

No Wires, No Clutter

A smart TV has many hassles, such as wires, cables, cords, soundbar connections, and streaming devices, creating a cluttered look around the TV.

On the other hand, my projector connects wirelessly with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers, and streaming services, avoiding the need to connect everything with wires. This keeps the room looking neat and clean.

Cost-Effective for a Bigger Screen

A good quality TV costs around $2,000 to $5,000, while the smart projector I chose cost me significantly less. With that money, I got a much bigger screen and high-quality view without compromising space.

While projectors can offer a larger screen for a lower cost than premium smart TVs, high-quality laser projectors can be just as expensive.

A Game-Changer for Sports and Gaming

My projector is my favorite because I am a big football fan, and watching the match on the big screen is my favorite. I also arrange many screenings with my friends in the living room, and we enjoy every goal of the match.

Gaming is another activity that I enjoy with my friends using the projector. I synchronize it with the room’s lights to enhance the gaming experience.

Some modern projectors support gaming, but most still have lower refresh rates (often 60Hz) and higher input lag than high-end gaming TVs, which can impact competitive gaming performance.

Easy to Upgrade and Replace

When you get a smart TV, new models come out frequently, and after a few years, you might consider upgrading to have a more immersive experience.

Smart projectors, on the other hand, are equipped with future-proof technology. They come with the latest advancements and remain functional for many years.

You can update the software to get the latest features, ensuring your projector stays up-to-date without replacing the entire unit.

Family-Friendly Entertainment

Projectors seem to be more of a family-time thing. They won’t affect children’s eyes and can also be used for any special occasion.

For example, you can set up an educational show for a children’s party in their room. Or, on Christmas, watch a movie with the whole family in an outdoor movie theater-like setting with a smart projector.

Energy Efficient Choice

Smart TVs consume a lot of electricity, which can increase your bills if you binge-watch something for hours. On the other hand, smart projectors consume less energy.

So, a smart projector could be a great choice regarding energy efficiency. This helps reduce your electricity bills and makes them an eco-friendly and sustainable option.

Connects to Everything

Smart projectors connect seamlessly with sound systems, enhancing the overall audio experience. Every Saturday night, I connect mine to the sound system to let my children enjoy the cinematic experience.

Additionally, it connects with all the streaming services, allowing me to enjoy every type of show easily.

After a year of using a smart projector, I can confidently say that choosing a smart projector was one of my best decisions. It has all the features of a smart TV—without the drawbacks.

Now that I watch everything on that big screen, I don’t want to return to a smaller screen.
