Who Can Get iOS 18.3?

iOS 18.3 is now available for all iPhones that support iOS 18. This covers the iPhone XS, subsequent devices, and the iPhone SE (second and third generations).

If your device is eligible for an update, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. Backup your data before upgrading to avoid data loss or installation troubles.

Apple Intelligence Now Enabled by Default

Apple has enabled Apple Intelligence (AI) in iOS 18.3. Previously, AI-powered advancements were an opt-in option, but new and upgrading customers will now have them enabled by default.

These include smart notification summaries, Siri enhancements, and automation capabilities. If you prefer not to utilize these AI-powered features, you can turn them off in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.

Notification Summaries Suspended for News & Entertainment Apps

Apple has temporarily turned off AI-generated notification summaries for News & Entertainment applications owing to alleged errors. This follows the generation of inaccurate summaries for major news sources such as the BBC, which raised worries about disinformation.

Apple intends to improve the AI model before re-enabling the function in a future release. Until then, consumers may manually read notifications from their favorite news applications without interference from AI-generated summaries.

iOS 18.3 includes an upgrade to Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16 users. The camera now recognizes plants and animals in real-time. Simply long-press the Camera Control to enable this function, which can assist users in swiftly identifying unfamiliar flora and wildlife.

This is a big step forward for nature enthusiasts, students, and researchers, as it provides real-time information using superior on-device AI processing.

Starlink Satellite Network Support

iOS 18.3 now supports Starlink satellite communication, a game-changing tool for users in distant locations. Unlike traditional satellite communication, which requires you to point your phone at the sky, Starlink works directly with Apple’s network, ensuring a smooth connection.

This cooperation between SpaceX and T-Mobile intends to deliver more dependable emergency communication services in locations with limited or no cellular coverage.

Calculator App Fixes

Apple has restored a crucial function to the Calculator app in iOS 18.3. Users may now hit the equals button many times to repeat the last mathematical operation, a long-overdue feature that increases efficiency for rapid computations.

Whether you’re conducting finances, budgeting, or solving arithmetic issues, this update makes the Calculator app more straightforward and user-friendly, resolving criticisms from earlier versions.

Action Button Gains New Controls

IPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro users may now customize the Action Button. Users may use it to launch Shazam for fast music detection, access the Apple TV remote, or enable shortcuts for other functions.

This increases the Action Button’s versatility, allowing users to simplify processes and enhance accessibility with a single touch, making routine actions faster and more convenient.

Lock Screen Button Customization

IOS 18.3 allows users to personalize their Lock Screen buttons for the first time. The default torch and camera shortcuts may now be disabled or replaced with other functions like Dark Mode, Wallet, or Alarm settings.

This is especially beneficial for people who regularly mistakenly activate the torch or want faster access to personalized features without unlocking their iPhones.

Home Screen Customization Expands

iOS 18.3 provides more freedom in Home Screen organization. Users may now position app icons wherever they want rather than being limited to a specific grid.

Icons may also be colored with bespoke colors, and Dark Mode is also available for app icons and background brightness settings. This allows consumers to have greater control over the aesthetics of their iPhone, resulting in a more personalized and visually attractive interface.

Redesigned Control Center

iOS 18.3 drastically redesigned the Control Centre, enabling customizable layouts. Users can resize, reorganize, and add additional capabilities to improve access.

There are new sections for media playback, HomeKit devices, and connection choices. This improves the Control Center’s functionality and usability, ensuring critical functionalities are only a swipe away.

Lock & Hide Apps for Privacy

iOS 18.3 improves privacy by allowing users to lock and hide applications. Users may now use Face ID, Touch ID, or a password to access critical apps.

Furthermore, some apps can be buried in a protected folder within the App Library, making them only available through authentication. This is essential for safeguarding personal information, banking apps, and private chats from prying eyes.

Apple has added a new Enhance Dialogue function to the TV app, which improves audio clarity by increasing speaking and minimizing background noise. This allows users to hear conversations more clearly in films and television shows, even in noisy surroundings.
