The Snapdragon 8 Elite and the Apple A18 Pro are based on TSMC’s advanced 3nm technology, ensuring increased efficiency and performance. This advanced technology uses fewer transistors, producing more powerful computations using less electricity. 

While the process is comparable, the Snapdragon 8 Elite features Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores, distinguishing it from Apple’s typical ARM-based design.

CPU Architecture and Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite has an octa-core CPU with two high-performance cores clocked at 4.32GHz and six mid-cores running at 3.53GHz. 

In contrast, the A18 Pro has six cores: two high-performance cores at 4.04GHz and four energy-efficient cores at 2.2GHz. The Snapdragon’s extra cores and faster clock speed offer it an advantage in multitasking and peak performance.

Benchmark Geekbench Results

In Geekbench’s single-core testing, the A18 Pro marginally outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Elite, earning 3,291 to 3,156. 

However, the Snapdragon outperforms the A18 Pro in multi-core tasks, scoring 9,489 to 8,146. As a result, Snapdragon is better suited to applications that require multiple high-performance cores to run concurrently.

GPU Capabilities

The Snapdragon 8 Elite’s Adreno 830 GPU offers a notable advantage with Unreal Engine 5.3 compatibility and hardware-accelerated ray tracing capabilities. 

Apple’s A18 Pro has a 6-core GPU that performs up to 20% quicker than its predecessor, particularly in Apple-optimized tasks. Nonetheless, the Adreno GPU’s raw power makes it a preferable option for gaming.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite beats the A18 Pro with an 82.4% stability score in the 3DMark WildLife Extreme Stress Test. This test evaluates graphical performance under sustained workloads, emphasizing Snapdragon’s effective thermal management. 

The improved stability promises greater performance for extended gaming or demanding graphical work, whereas the A18 Pro struggles with consistency despite its strong 6-core GPU.

Connectivity Features

The Snapdragon 8 Elite and the Apple A18 Pro offer sophisticated connectivity choices such as Wi-Fi 7, 5G, and ultra-wideband (UWB). However, the Snapdragon 8 Elite includes an AI-powered multi-antenna system to improve signal strength and efficiency. 

This groundbreaking feature boosts real-world connectivity, providing Snapdragon an advantage, particularly in places with unpredictable network conditions.

Power Efficiency

The Snapdragon 8 Elite’s Oryon cores and optimized GPU architecture ensure effective thermal management and long-lasting performance under severe loads. This makes it an excellent alternative for extended gaming or multitasking. 

The A18 Pro, while highly efficient within the iOS ecosystem, is more concerned with preserving energy during routine operations, making it less reliable in benchmarks requiring extended high-performance output.

Video and Imaging Capabilities

The Apple A18 Pro has cutting-edge video recording capabilities, including 4K at 120fps in Dolby Vision, a smartphone first. 

In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Elite enables 4K at 60fps while compensating with AI-powered Image Signal Processing (ISP), which allows for real-time autofocus, HDR changes, and white balance correction. While the A18 Pro excels in video quality, Snapdragon excels in AI-powered photographic features.

AI Assistant

The Snapdragon 8 Elite includes a ground-breaking AI assistant driven by numerous models capable of live object detection via the camera. It completes all tasks on-device for more privacy.

Ray Tracing

This allows the Snapdragon to keep up performance during extended gaming or video processing, whereas the A18 Pro may face minor thermal throttling.

Ecosystem Dependency

The A18 Pro flourishes within Apple’s ecosystem, working seamlessly with macOS, iPadOS, and WatchOS. This strong connectivity improves productivity for Apple device owners. 

The Snapdragon 8 Elite, which runs Android 15, on the other hand, has a wider range of compatibility across brands, giving consumers who seek a customizable and cross-platform experience more options.

Device Compatibility

The Snapdragon 8 Elite powers several top Android devices, like the Realme GT7 Pro, giving buyers a wide choice of options. In contrast, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro versions are the only ones that use the A18 Pro processor. 

While this exclusivity benefits Apple’s ecosystem, it limits options compared to Snapdragon, which appeals to users looking for various Android smartphones.
