There are rumors that you may be able to get Apple’s AirDrop feature on Android phones soon. XDA Developers recently tweeted what looked more like confirmation of Google’s release of Nearby Share. Nearby Share is currently out in the Android 11 OS beta. Only a handful of users have this capability right now. However, the tweet speculates that Nearby Share may roll out as soon as August. I think it might make sense to release on the Android 11 OS launch date in September 2020.
Google told OEMs that Nearby Share, Google's AirDrop-like file-sharing service, rolls out to all Android (6.0+) devices in August.— Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) July 17, 2020
Can't confirm if that's the plan as of now, but this info came from a recent source.

If the rumors are verified, it looks like the feature will be released on September 8, 2020 launch date for the Android 11 OS.
What is Nearby Share?
Nearby Share is much like the previous Android Beam. Whereas the functionality of Android Beam relied on Near Field Communication (NFC) to send files to other android devices, Nearby Share uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so you don’t have to be so close to the other device to share or send a file. You just need to be within the WiFi network or within Bluetooth’s range.

Who can use Nearby Share?
Nearby Share is currently out for beta users of Android 11 OS. I wouldn’t recommend just getting the Android 11 OS beta just for the Nearby Share feature. I would suggest waiting for Nearby Share to be released with the speculated launch in August (XDA says it’s August) or the launch of Android 11 OS in September.
Nearby Share for Android 6 or higher
If they do roll it out, then the idea is that all Android devices running Android 6 or higher could use the Nearby Share feature.
Application of Nearby Share
I think there are a ton of capabilities that I’m excited about. It would be great if you could then share actual device features to automate your house with your family and friends. This would mean that you don’t need to use a 3rd party app to share what you would like to. You can just use Nearby Share as a way to share files that you just want your recipient to see. For example, if you had a routine or a shortcut that was specifically made for your house, you could then share that button, widget, or file to your family to ensure they were able to secure or manage your home.
