via IFTTT Apple at CES 2019 – New Products, Integration, Apple Music, and More
Apple wasn’t sitting at CES 2019 with a booth set up and a ton of new products. Instead, they let their partners do the talking and the walking, and now we’re left with a whole set of new products and features to talk about. The biggest of which comes to us from Samsung.
Netatmo has a new smart video doorbell that doesn’t require a subscription. It just requires a physical 2 wire connection into the back and wifi. It is HomeKit capable, and it can also upload to cloud services like DropBox.
Samsung announced AirPlay 2 integration, as well as the ability to use Bixby to search Apple Music, iTunes and/or movies. You’ll also have HomeKit support on Samsung’s TVs, as well as LG, Vizio, and Sony TVs in 2019.
The Eve Light Strip is a 2m long bendable strip of LED lights. It’s $79 USD. A $49 Eve Light Strip Extensions, is also available.
Airplay 2 has been added to the Harman Kardon Citation series. Google Assistant is on board there, and I’m interested to see the compatibility between AirPlay 2 and Google Assistant.
The Currant Smart Outlet is another device getting Siri and HomeKit integration. It also analyzes data consumption and gives suggestions to turn on and off devices.
The Kwikset Premis and the Avia smart lock will both have Siri and HomeKit integration. Halo and Aura Kwikset locks are also likely to work with Apple HomeKit but no mention of other systems. Halo is priced at $199 and 229 for a touchscreen version. The Aura is priced at $150 for a Bluetooth version, and it uses 4 AA batteries for 6 months (up) to 1 year.
Nanoleaf has put out new textured 2D and hexagon 3D, the Jabra Elite 65H, the C by GE bulbs (including the new multicolor bulbs and light strips), and new Wemo switches all will get direct Siri and HomeKit compatibility.
U by Moen is a smart shower with Siri integration as well, and Arlo’s new smart home cameras will also have Siri and HomeKit integration. The Arlo Ultra 4K HDR Wire-Free and Arlo Pro 2 security cameras systems will get Siri and HomeKit integration via a firmware update in Q1 2019.
Ikea’s Tradfri set of products have extended with a set of smart blinds coming to Europe for 99 Euros this year.
